BOOK

Mr. Babenco

Soliloquy for Two Without One

Mr. Babenco - A Solioquy for Two Without One is a memoir by filmmaker Hector Babenco (1948-2018). The work is composed of conversations he and actress Bárbara Paz, his wife, had at the end of the director of Pixote's life - up to the couple's last dinner together.

Prompted by Bárbara's questions, Babenco recounts his childhood in Argentina, the discovery of his first cancer, and the behind-the-scenes stories of his films. She is the one who organizes the book, punctuating it with this intimate dialogue about the life and work of the filmmaker responsible for films such as *Kiss of the Spider Woman*, *Carandiru*, *The Past*, and *My Hindu Friend*, his last film. The work also includes unpublished poems written by Babenco in his youth – in Spanish and Portuguese – and some photographic records.
